Jonathan Palmer is hoping 2012 proves to be a successful year for fans of motor racing at the Brands Hatch circuit.
The boss of Motor Sport Vision Racing has seen the fortunes of the track turn around in recent seasons and following the launch of the 2012 season on Tuesday, Palmer was keen to emphasise how many different events there were coming up at the iconic circuit:
“The big international event we have is the DTM, which was originally the German Touring Car Championship and with BMW coming into it, that will be strong this year.”
“British Touring Cars has its’ opening round here at Brands Hatch in April and the final round of the Championship will be here in October.”
“We’ve also got the opening round of the British Superbikes here on Easter Monday which is always one of the biggest of events throughout the year, along with the summer Superbike Festival in August and then the final round of the BSB Championship in October.”
“Along with all that, we have the British Formula 3’s and GT’s once again, two big historic meetings and also a lot of club racing which is the lifeblood of the circuit.”
2012 will also see the Paralympics come to Brands Hatch with cycling events taking part around the circuit and Palmer is hoping the event will showcase the circuit to the rest of the world:
“Having the Olympics in the UK is a once in a lifetime experience for most of us and we’re extremely proud to be having the Paralympics cycling taking place at Brands Hatch.”
“It’s very appropriate to be here as we are so close to London, it makes sense to have it on the circuit and there will be some outstanding world athletes coming here. I think we could get a big following from it and is a pleasant change from the rest of the racing that goes on at Brands Hatch and will be a big part of the history of the circuit in years to come.”
